Elon Musk’s company, X (the social media platform), is taking New York State to court. X is upset about a new law called the "Stop Hiding Hate Act." This law says big social media companies must publicly share their rules about hate speech and explain how they handle things like hate, lies, and foreign influence online. The law also makes them send regular reports to the government about these actions.
X argues that this law is unfair and goes against free speech rights. They say the law forces them to share private information and could make them pay big fines if they don’t follow the rules. X believes that the government should not control what people say online or force companies to explain how they decide what is allowed.
The people who wrote the law say it is needed because social media can spread hate and lies, and the public deserves to know what companies are doing to stop it. They say the law does not break any free speech rules and only asks for basic information so people can choose which platforms to use.
This fight is part of a bigger debate about how much control the government should have over what happens on social media. X has already fought against similar laws in other states. The outcome of this case could affect how social media is managed in the future, not just in New York but across the country.
