In a significant development, a 52-year-old man from Badger has been charged with first-degree murder in relation to a woman's death in Grand Falls-Windsor.
Ivan Loder, the accused, made a virtual court appearance from Grand Falls-Windsor and is now in custody pending further court proceedings.
Police responded to an emergency call at a residence in the Crescent Heights area at approximately 4:45 a.m. on April 10, 2026. Upon arrival, they discovered the deceased woman inside the home; investigators later confirmed a prior acquaintance between the victim and the accused.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are actively investigating the case and collaborating with the Chief Medical Examiner’s Office to ascertain the cause of death and collect evidence.
Earlier, law enforcement had advised the public to steer clear of the area while they managed the situation, but this advisory was later annulled once the site was secured.
This incident follows another serious case in the same town earlier this week, where a shooting led to one fatality and another person hospitalized. Police have confirmed the two cases are unrelated and are under separate investigations.
No further information about the victim has been shared, and the investigation remains ongoing as officials probe the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
