A major celebration of the cooperative sector took place in Hanoi on April 10, 2026, as Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung attended the ceremony honoring outstanding cooperatives with the Cooperative Star Award and the Mai An Tiem Award.
The event marked the 80th anniversary of Ho Chi Minh’s call for farmers and landowners to participate in agricultural cooperatives, a movement that has played a crucial role in Vietnam’s development.
Senior officials and leaders from various national organizations were present, reflecting the importance of the cooperative sector. The ceremony recognized 100 cooperatives for their excellence, innovation, and contribution to the country’s economic growth.
Speaking at the event, leaders highlighted how cooperatives have evolved from small rural groups into a vital part of Vietnam’s economy. Today, the country has over 34,880 cooperatives with nearly 5.7 million members, contributing significantly to employment and income generation.
Deputy Prime Minister Ho Quoc Dung praised the achievements of the collective economic sector and emphasized that cooperatives are becoming key drivers of innovation, digital transformation, and sustainable development. He encouraged them to adopt modern technologies and strengthen their competitiveness in global markets.
The government also stressed the importance of promoting green and circular economic models, improving product quality, and expanding value chain linkages between cooperatives and businesses. This approach aims to enhance both domestic and international market presence.
Looking ahead, authorities reaffirmed their commitment to supporting cooperatives through improved policies and legal frameworks. The Deputy Prime Minister urged all stakeholders to foster self-reliance, innovation, and collaboration to ensure the sustainable growth of the cooperative sector in the coming years.
