A major political transition is expected in Bihar as Chief Minister Nitish Kumar is likely to resign from his post on April 13, 2026. The development signals the end of his long tenure and a shift in the state’s political leadership.
The move comes shortly after Nitish Kumar took oath as a member of the Rajya Sabha on April 10, marking a significant step toward his exit from state politics after nearly two decades as Chief Minister.
Ahead of this transition, senior leaders of the ruling JD(U) held a crucial meeting with him at his official residence in Patna. The discussions reportedly focused on the formation of the next government and future political arrangements.
According to party sources, it has become increasingly clear that the next Chief Minister of Bihar is likely to be from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), indicating a major shift in the ruling alliance’s power structure.
In preparation for his resignation, Nitish Kumar has started moving his belongings, including furniture, from the Chief Minister’s official residence at 1, Anne Marg to his private residence at 7, Circular Road.
The transition is being carefully managed, with leaders working to ensure continuity in governance and a smooth handover of power in the state.
Political observers believe this change could significantly reshape Bihar’s political landscape, with attention now focused on the BJP’s next leadership announcement and future policy direction.
