The Israeli Knesset erupted in synchronized applause and chants of Modi as Indian Prime Minister

Post by : Shakul

Jerusalem : In a historic moment for bilateral ties, Narendra Modi received a standing ovation as chants of “Modi, Modi” echoed through the Knesset during his landmark address on 25 February 2026. It marked the first time an Indian prime minister has spoken before Israel’s Parliament, underscoring the deepening strategic partnership between India and Israel.

In his speech, Modi reaffirmed India’s firm stance against terrorism and expressed solidarity with the Israeli people, particularly after the October 7, 2023 attacks. He stressed that “no cause can justify the murder of civilians,” linking India’s own experiences with terrorism to broader global efforts to counter violent extremism and promote regional stability.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu welcomed Modi warmly, describing the two nations as “brothers” and highlighting the strong personal rapport and mutual trust between the leaders. Over recent years, cooperation in trade, technology, and defence has expanded significantly, further strengthening diplomatic bonds.

In recognition of his contribution to bilateral relations, Modi was awarded the Speaker of the Knesset Medal, the highest honour of Israel’s Parliament—becoming the first foreign leader to receive it. His visit also included discussions on economic cooperation, innovation, agriculture, and people-to-people ties, reflecting a broad and growing India–Israel partnership.
