Speculation is rising over a potential summit between North Korea and the United States as both nations indicate openness to dialogue. Analysts suggest a meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong-un could align with Trump’s planned visit to China in April. However, the likelihood of a concrete agreement remains uncertain due to conditions set by Pyongyang.
Kim Jong-un emphasized that North Korea is open to peaceful coexistence if the U.S. respects its current constitutional state and ends hostile policies. He also highlighted North Korea’s status as a nuclear-armed nation, implying that Washington must recognize this to begin talks.
U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio noted that dialogue is possible, emphasizing the willingness to listen to other nations’ perspectives, including North Korea. Experts caution that while a meeting may happen, achieving tangible results would require complex alignment between both sides, particularly on arms control and hostile policy measures.
North Korea has contrasted its messaging toward South Korea and the U.S., rejecting Seoul’s reconciliatory efforts while keeping a path open for direct talks with Washington. Observers suggest this reflects Pyongyang’s preference for direct engagement with the United States over regional intermediaries.
Seoul has responded cautiously, expressing regret over North Korea’s hostile stance but reiterating commitment to peaceful coexistence and trust-building on the Korean Peninsula.
