Gerald Brown, 65, a former US Air Force fighter pilot, was arrested in Indiana after returning from China, where he had been since December 2023.
The US Justice Department stated that Brown allegedly conspired with foreign nationals to provide combat aircraft training to Chinese Air Force pilots without a required license from the US State Department.
Brown served 24 years in the Air Force, commanding sensitive units responsible for nuclear weapons delivery systems, leading combat missions, and serving as a fighter and simulator instructor.
After retiring in 1996, Brown worked as a cargo pilot and later as a US defense contractor, training pilots to fly A-10 and F-35 fighter jets. He reportedly negotiated a contract in August 2023 with Stephen Su Bin, a Chinese national previously imprisoned in the US for espionage.
FBI officials highlighted that the arrest is a warning against collaborating with adversaries to jeopardize US national security and military personnel.
