Hyderabad — A major fire broke out on Thursday morning at the Mangala Gowri Shopping Mall located on Road No. 36 in Jubilee Hills, triggering a substantial emergency response from city fire and rescue services.

The blaze erupted around 11:20 am during renovation work at the multi-storey commercial building, where sparks from welding or gas cutters are believed to have ignited combustible material on the façade. Thick smoke and flames quickly spread across the front of the structure.

Fire officials, supported by four fire tenders from Jubilee Hills and Panjagutta stations, along with the Disaster Response Force and local police, reached the site promptly and brought the situation under control within about 1.5 hours.

Officials confirmed that no deaths have been reported, and while several people were inside the building at the time of the incident, they were able to escape safely — some breaking glass to evacuate amid intense smoke.

Residents and workers described panic as thick smoke engulfed the building, with firefighters and rescue teams conducting operations to ensure all occupants were out.

Heavy traffic congestion was reported in Jubilee Hills due to the fire and subsequent emergency response, prompting authorities to divert traffic on the busy stretch to facilitate operations.

The District Fire Officer said that damage was mainly confined to furniture, interior items, and the façade, with financial losses estimated at several lakh rupees. The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation, and officials said they will review safety compliance as part of the inquiry.
