In a shocking refuelling accident, a routine visit to a CNG pump turned dangerous after the fuel nozzle detached violently while a worker was refilling a vehicle. The force of the nozzle striking the worker caused serious injury, including the loss of an eye, according to reports from similar incidents at fuel stations.
Eyewitnesses said that as the refuelling process began, the compressed natural gas connector unexpectedly came off with significant force, hitting the attendant in the face and eye area. The injured worker was immediately rushed to hospital for urgent medical treatment following the mishap.
Incidents of CNG nozzle mishaps have been documented in the past, where incorrect attachment or sudden releases of pressurized gas equipment have led to severe injuries at filling stations. Experts note that pressurized fuel systems like CNG require careful handling, and any loose fittings or improper sealing can cause safety hazards, including high-pressure detachment of nozzles.
Compressed natural gas is widely used as an automotive fuel due to its cleaner emissions, but accidents at refuelling stations have occurred in various parts of the world. These include other types of misfirings and equipment failures that resulted in injuries to station workers. The latest incident has once again raised concerns about workplace safety protocols and the proper training of personnel handling high-pressure fuel equipment.
Authorities and fuel safety regulators typically recommend that stations regularly maintain and inspect all CNG connectors, pressure gauges and hoses to minimize risks. Workers are advised to follow strict safety procedures and wear appropriate personal protection when dealing with pressurized fuelling systems.
As investigations continue into the precise cause of the accident, calls for improved safety measures at fuel stations are growing louder among industry observers and consumer safety advocates.
