The United States has started accepting applications again from foreign students who want to study there. But now, there is a new rule: everyone applying for a student visa must make their social media accounts public so that US officials can check them.
Consular officers will look at what people have posted online. If they find any posts or messages that seem unfriendly or hostile towards the US, its government, culture, or values, it could affect the visa decision. If someone refuses to make their social media accounts public, their visa application might be rejected. This is because officials may think the person is trying to hide something.
This rule applies to all types of student and exchange visas. The US government says this will help them keep the country safe by checking everyone who wants to come to study. Many students around the world have been waiting for the visa process to restart, especially as the new school year is about to begin.
Some people are worried about this rule because it could make students afraid to share their opinions online. Others say it is important for security. For now, students who want to study in the US must follow these new rules if they want their visa applications to be considered.
