The government of Vietnam has approved a proposal to establish Dong Nai city as a centrally governed urban area, marking a major step in the region’s administrative restructuring and urban expansion. The plan also includes the creation of 10 new wards within Dong Nai province to support better governance and service delivery.
The decision, formalized through a resolution issued on April 6, 2026, reflects the government’s strategy to upgrade key economic regions into more autonomous urban centers. Dong Nai, known for its strong industrial base and proximity to Ho Chi Minh City, is expected to benefit significantly from this transition.
According to officials, the proposal was submitted by the Ministry of Interior and has now received full government approval. The move is aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency, improving infrastructure planning, and creating favorable conditions for investment and economic growth in the region.
The Ministry of Interior has been assigned a leading role in finalizing the project. It will incorporate feedback from various government bodies and prepare comprehensive documents, including draft resolutions, for submission to the National Assembly and its Standing Committee for further review and approval.
In addition, the ministry will coordinate closely with other relevant agencies to ensure that all legal procedures and regulatory requirements are met. Authorities have stressed the importance of maintaining accuracy, transparency, and timeliness throughout the process to ensure smooth implementation.
The government also highlighted that the Ministry of Interior will bear full responsibility for the content and quality of the proposal, including reports and supporting documentation. Any issues arising beyond its authority must be promptly reported to the Prime Minister.
The establishment of Dong Nai as a centrally governed city is part of Vietnam’s broader vision to modernize its urban system, improve regional planning, and strengthen economic hubs. If fully implemented, the move is expected to boost connectivity, attract investment, and enhance the overall quality of life for residents in the province.
