Korea, Thailand Boost Ties in Key Phone Call

Post by : Shakul

Anutin Charnvirakul held a telephone conversation with Lee Jae Myung, marking a significant step in strengthening bilateral relations between Thailand and South Korea. The South Korean President congratulated Anutin on his appointment and reaffirmed the importance of Thailand as a strategic partner.

During the discussion, both leaders agreed to accelerate negotiations on the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), which aims to boost trade, investment, and economic resilience amid global supply chain uncertainties. Thailand expressed optimism about concluding the agreement soon, highlighting its importance for long-term economic cooperation.

The leaders also focused on strengthening joint efforts to combat online scams and cybercrime. Both countries have been actively cooperating through initiatives such as the Thailand–Korea Breaking Chains project, with plans to enhance training and technology use in tackling digital fraud and protecting citizens.

In addition, the conversation emphasized growing cultural ties, including cooperation in tourism, film, and entertainment industries. Both sides acknowledged the increasing popularity of cultural exchanges and agreed to expand collaboration in creative sectors. The Thai Prime Minister also invited the South Korean President for an official visit during the upcoming ASEAN Summit, where further agreements, including CEPA, may be finalized.
