Jalalabad, Afghanistan — A Pakistani fighter jet reportedly crashed in the eastern city of Jalalabad on February 28, 2026, with the pilot ejecting before the aircraft went down, Afghan military and police sources said. Local officials claim the pilot was captured alive after landing by parachute, as tensions along the Afghanistan–Pakistan border escalate.
According to officials in Nangarhar province, Afghan forces shot down the jet in the city’s sixth district amid ongoing exchanges between the two neighbouring militaries. Residents and Afghan police reported hearing the aircraft overhead shortly before explosions were heard near the local airport, followed by the sighting of the pilot parachuting safely before being detained.
The reported downing of the aircraft follows increased military activity in the region, including recent airstrikes launched by Pakistan on Kabul and Kandahar. Afghan officials say the incidents come amid an intensifying confrontation, although Islamabad’s foreign ministry has dismissed claims of its aircraft being shot down as “totally untrue”, stating no jets were lost.
At the time of reporting, neither side has provided independent confirmation of the crash site or the pilot’s status from official defence ministries. The situation continues to develop as authorities from both countries respond to the rapidly evolving conflict dynamics.
