Cadillac’s upcoming participation in Formula One in 2026 signifies a pivotal development for American motorsport. Team CEO Dan Towriss emphasized that this venture is more than just racing; it’s about enhancing the U.S. presence in global sports. He noted that the timing aligns perfectly with the country hosting major events like the 2026 FIFA World Cup and the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
These insights came from Towriss during the Las Vegas Grand Prix weekend. He expressed that Formula One embodies “innovation on the greatest scale,” and, with backing from General Motors, America is set to establish a solid position in this elite competition. Cadillac aims to be the American team that resonates with fans nationwide.
As the 11th team on the Formula One grid starting in 2026, Cadillac has already announced Sergio Perez and Valtteri Bottas as its drivers, generating significant excitement among fans in the U.S. and Mexico. This marks Cadillac as only the second U.S.-flagged team in Formula One, alongside Haas.
The team plans to establish two major operational hubs—one in Silverstone, England, and a new facility in Fishers, Indiana. This international strategy will facilitate efficient car development and testing. Towriss shared that the initiative ignites a strong sense of national pride among fans, many of whom are eager for team merchandise and have shared personal experiences with the Cadillac brand over time.
Interest from sponsors has surged, particularly after Perez's signing, reflecting a growing eagerness in the U.S. and Mexico to support a new American team in Formula One. Towriss remarked that market interest has been “beyond expectations,” showcasing public enthusiasm for this new venture.
However, the team will begin from scratch, without adopting an existing operation, which Towriss acknowledged might lead to a slow start. He remarked, “Are we going to be last? Why wouldn’t we be last?” Yet, he emphasized the significance of how quickly the team can progress in the coming years.
Cadillac has laid out a comprehensive long-term strategy, targeting podium finishes and victories within five years of entry. Towriss stated that whether they utilize a Ferrari engine or develop a Cadillac-built engine, the focus will be on steady advancement and striving for the top.
Towriss also expressed strong support for Formula One’s new broadcasting partnership with Apple. He noted plans to collaborate with major American leagues like Major League Baseball and the NBA in cross-promotions, aiming to introduce Formula One to fans more accustomed to traditional American sports.
In conclusion, Towriss stated that this entry into Formula One marks just the start of Cadillac's journey. The ambition is to build a competitive team that proudly represents the U.S. on the global stage, emphasizing, “We didn’t enter Formula One just to be there. This is just the beginning.”
