Egypt has successfully completed drilling operations at the Zohr-9 well in the Zohr gas field, a major offshore site in the Mediterranean Sea. The newly drilled well is expected to produce up to 70 million cubic feet of natural gas per day — a significant addition to the country’s growing energy portfolio.
Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Karim Badawi confirmed that the drilling was completed on schedule by the Saipem 10,000 vessel. The entire operation adhered to strict safety and environmental standards, reflecting Egypt’s ongoing commitment to responsible energy development.
The Zohr field, discovered in 2015, remains one of the largest natural gas fields in the Mediterranean. With this latest milestone, Egypt aims to strengthen its domestic supply and reduce its dependence on imported energy.
In parallel, drilling has also commenced at a new exploratory well named Denise W-1X in the Denise development area off Port Said. Operated by the Modern Drilling Company, the Al Qaher-2 rig is carrying out operations at a water depth of 98 metres, targeting a total depth of more than 4,200 metres.
These ongoing projects underline Egypt’s determination to enhance its natural gas production capacity, ensuring energy stability and supporting the nation’s long-term economic growth.
