Vietnam has announced a nationwide initiative to strengthen support for war veterans, martyrs, and individuals with meritorious services to the revolution. The move comes as the country prepares to mark the 51st anniversary of the Liberation of Southern Vietnam and national reunification.
The directive was issued through an official letter signed by Pham Thi Thanh Tra, requesting the Ministry of Interior and local authorities to enhance welfare measures and ensure better living conditions for beneficiaries. The government emphasized the importance of continuing long-standing policies that honor national contributors.
Authorities have been instructed to complete the distribution of commemorative gifts before April 28, 2026. Special attention will be given to severely wounded and sick soldiers currently receiving care at specialized centers, ensuring they are personally visited and supported by local leadership.
The initiative also includes a detailed review of individuals affected by chemical exposure during the war. Local governments are required to identify those living in temporary or dilapidated housing and submit verified lists to ensure targeted assistance and housing support measures.
The Prime Minister has stressed the need for smooth and timely administrative procedures in recognizing eligible individuals and delivering benefits without interruption. Plans are also in place to renovate memorial sites and improve facilities dedicated to caring for veterans and their families during the 2026–2030 period.
In addition, authorities aim to mobilize broad social participation to enhance both material and spiritual support for these groups. The long-term objective is to ensure that by 2030, all individuals with meritorious services and their families achieve a standard of living above the community average.
This initiative highlights Vietnam’s continued commitment to honoring its war heroes and supporting their families, while reinforcing national unity and social responsibility during an important historical milestone.
