Residents of St. Petersburg, Russia, were left amazed after witnessing a breathtaking sight in the night sky where four moon-like images appeared. The rare natural event quickly caught public attention and became widely discussed on social media platforms.
The unusual visual was caused by a phenomenon known as paraselene, also referred to as “moon dogs.” This occurs when ice crystals present in the atmosphere bend and reflect moonlight, creating bright reflections around the moon that appear like multiple moons in the sky.
According to experts, this phenomenon is quite rare and is mostly seen in colder regions. It forms when moonlight passes through ice crystals positioned at specific angles in the atmosphere, producing additional glowing spots beside the moon.
The stunning visual fascinated residents, many of whom captured photos and videos and shared them online. The clips rapidly went viral, leaving viewers across the internet surprised by nature’s beauty.
Such optical natural events often remind people of nature’s extraordinary capabilities. The rare sight witnessed in St. Petersburg once again highlighted how atmospheric conditions can create mesmerizing and unforgettable visuals.
