Dubai: Indian cricket's rising star, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, delivered an astonishing performance at the ICC Academy Ground, scoring 171 runs off just 95 balls in his team's opening game of the Under-19 Men’s Asia Cup 2025 against the UAE.
The 14-year-old left-hander swiftly took charge of the game, notching his century in a mere 56 balls. His innings showcased aggressive ball striking and daring intent, featuring five boundaries and nine impressive sixes before reaching three figures. Suryavanshi consistently applied pressure on the UAE bowlers, wrapping up his innings with nine fours and 14 sixes—marking one of the most dominant performances seen in the tournament's recent memory.
His exit was as surprising as his innings, falling to spinner Uddish Suri when trying a paddle sweep, leaving him just short of breaking Ambati Rayudu’s long-held Youth ODI record of 177 set in 2002.
With a rapid ascent in the cricketing world, the Bihar prodigy already owns the record for the fastest Youth ODI century, achieving this feat in just 52 balls against England and surpassing Pakistan’s Kamran Ghulam. Suryavanshi is also recognized as the youngest player to reach a century in this category—a record he keeps building upon.
This dazzling innings comes on the heels of his previous remarkable score of 144 runs off 42 balls against the UAE during the Asia Cup Rising Stars T20 event in Doha, further cementing his reputation as a formidable player. He now boasts two Youth ODI centuries, including a remarkable 143 against England earlier this year.
Fresh off his recent domestic achievements, Suryavanshi made headlines by becoming the youngest player to score a century in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy with a brilliant performance for Bihar against Maharashtra.
As India’s under-19 team aims for success at the forthcoming 2026 Under-19 ODI World Cup, this Asia Cup offers a vital opportunity for growth. On a crucial day for the team, Suryavanshi’s outstanding performance stands as a major highlight of the tournament.
