Officials at Kuwait International Airport's Terminal 4 successfully stopped two Indian travelers aiming to smuggle out 855 grams of 24-karat gold. The duo was en route to Ahmedabad, India.
Kuwait Customs reported that during routine departure checks, officers grew suspicious of the travelers, prompting detailed inspections that uncovered the disguised gold.
In the first instance, customs officials located 353 grams of pure gold hidden within a belt buckle, which was obscured with a black coating to mislead authorities.
The second traveler was caught with 502 grams of gold, including a 340-gram belt buckle also disguised with a black layer, alongside a 162-gram bracelet that had a silver cover.
Seizure reports are being compiled for both cases. Customs are set to hand over the two Indian passengers and the gold to the relevant legal authorities for further action.
These incidents underscore the rigorous customs enforcement at Kuwait International Airport aimed at curbing the illicit transport of valuable assets and precious metals.
