An SBS Transit bus driver and two motorists were taken to hospital after a multi-vehicle accident on the Bukit Timah Expressway (BKE) in Singapore on the morning of Aug 19.
The accident happened on the BKE before the Mandai Road exit at around 9am, according to the Singapore Police Force. The crash involved two cars, a motorcycle, a lorry and an SBS Transit bus.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) said three people were taken to Woodlands Hospital while conscious following the accident. They were a 57-year-old male bus driver, a 58-year-old male car driver and a 54-year-old male motorcyclist.
SBS Transit confirmed that the bus involved was operating Service 170, but it was an off-service bus and was not carrying passengers when the accident occurred.
SBS Transit spokeswoman Grace Wu said the company was assisting the police with their investigation and apologised to motorists affected by the accident and the resulting disruption.
Police said the SBS Transit bus driver is assisting with ongoing investigations. Authorities are working to establish the circumstances surrounding the crash.
A video of the accident shared on the SG Road Vigilante Facebook page appears to show the bus travelling along the second-rightmost lane before swerving to the right and crashing through the guard rails at the central divider.
The police investigation into the BKE accident is ongoing. Further details about what caused the collision have not been released.
