President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has officially launched the Uzbek Reading Challenge, a nationwide initiative aimed at fostering a culture of reading and knowledge among the youth of Uzbekistan. This effort marks a significant step in enhancing the strategic ties between Uzbekistan and the UAE, focusing on knowledge sharing and governmental advancement.
This program was established with the collaborative efforts of the UAE Government Experience Exchange Office, under the Ministry of Cabinet Affairs, and the Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Global Initiatives (MBRGI).
The Uzbek Reading Challenge takes inspiration from the Arab Reading Challenge, initiated by Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum in 2015. This initiative has successfully reached over 200 million students worldwide, making it one of the largest literacy campaigns on a global scale.
President Mirziyoyev emphasized that Uzbekistan analyzed leading reading initiatives globally before implementing this program, citing the UAE’s model as a paragon of cultivating a reading culture among the younger generation.
He described the challenge not merely as a competition but as a vital investment in the nation’s future, asserting that nurturing reading habits in children today will pave the way for a stronger Uzbekistan tomorrow.
Additionally, Mirziyoyev expressed gratitude to the UAE government and to Mohammad Al Gergawi for their support in fostering this initiative and enhancing bilateral cooperation.
Mohammad Al Gergawi, UAE's Minister of Cabinet Affairs and Secretary General of MBRGI, reaffirmed the UAE's dedication to deepening collaboration with Uzbekistan under the guidance of Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum.
Al Gergawi noted that the launch of the Uzbekistan Reading Challenge signifies the robust partnership between the two nations, embodying their shared commitment to societal progress through culture and education.
Developed in collaboration with Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Education, the initiative aims to instill reading habits, enhance knowledge, and promote participation in intellectual endeavors that support personal growth.
The program also pays tribute to Uzbekistan's illustrious history as a hub of Islamic scholarship and learning, honoring figures like Imam Al-Bukhari, Imam Al-Tirmidhi, Al-Biruni, Ibn Sina, and Al-Khwarizmi.
By drawing inspiration from historic cities such as Samarkand and Bukhara, the challenge seeks to reconnect younger generations with their country’s rich educational heritage.
The partnership between the UAE and Uzbekistan in governmental knowledge exchange has flourished recently, with over 2.8 million individuals in Uzbekistan benefitting from more than 380 training workshops, totaling approximately 16.7 million hours, focusing on government efficiency, leadership, innovation, and public services.
Further, officials and experts from both nations have carried out workshops, field trips, and knowledge-sharing sessions to bolster development projects and enhance cooperation.
