New inquiries have surfaced in Alberta regarding the involvement of a staff member from the United Conservative Party (UCP) in a contentious meeting that exposed personal details of former Premier Jason Kenney. This incident is tied to a burgeoning political scandal linked to the Centurion Project, a separatist group, and a massive breach of voter data impacting millions across Alberta.
Reports indicate that the controversy ignited when Alberta’s Opposition NDP alleged it had acquired video footage from an April 16 meeting organized online by the Centurion Project. During this session, organizers purportedly showcased a database containing personal details of nearly three million Alberta voters, including names, addresses, and sensitive information associated with Elections Alberta.
The situation escalated when footage revealed that Jason Kenney's personal information was displayed live during the meeting. Participants reportedly viewed his home address and other private details as the database was demonstrated, prompting Kenney to increase his personal security due to threats posed by extremist and separatist groups in recent years.
Attention shifted to the UCP as it was claimed that senior party officials or staff joined the online meeting. The NDP accused a person named “Arundeep Sandhu,” identified as the UCP Caucus Director of Stakeholder Relations, of attending. Another attendee, initially named as “Rob Smith,” was speculated to be the UCP party president, although the party refuted this claim, stating that he was elsewhere during the meeting.
The UCP stood by its staff member, asserting that caucus employees frequently observe political events without any intention of participating unlawfully. Party officials asserted that the staffer had “no reason to believe” that the presented database was illegal at that time. Nonetheless, critics found this reasoning inadequate, given the sensitive nature of the information displayed during the meeting.
Political analysts and opposition figures voiced concerns about potential oversight related to the matter. Critics stated that seeing private voter data publicly displayed should have immediately raised flags regarding legality and privacy rights. Moreover, the NDP queried why there was no notification to Elections Alberta or the RCMP concerning the database demonstration if government-affiliated staff were aware.
The Centurion Project has emerged as a focal point of one of Alberta’s most significant political data scandals recently. It was connected to the “Stay Free Alberta” separatist initiative and allegedly accessed voter information through unauthorized methods. Elections Alberta subsequently secured a court order to prevent public access to the database while investigations into the data sharing were initiated by law enforcement and election officials.
Jason Kenney, who held office as Alberta’s premier from 2019 to 2022, condemned the information leak vehemently. Describing the incident as “outrageous,” he cautioned that disclosing personal addresses and private information could endanger individuals. Kenney also hinted at possible legal actions as investigations into the management of Alberta's voter data unfold.
