The government of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has issued a directive advising its citizens against travel to Uganda, the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo), and South Sudan unless absolutely necessary. This advisory comes in light of ongoing concerns regarding the Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) affecting regions in East and Central Africa.
In an announcement made on Saturday, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs encouraged Emirati nationals to delay all non-essential travel to these countries and to remain informed about the Ebola situation through official channels.
This notice represents the UAE government's initiative to safeguard the health and safety of its citizens while traveling abroad. Authorities are actively monitoring the unfolding situation and offering guidance to ensure informed decision-making among travellers.
Citizens currently residing in Uganda, DR Congo, or South Sudan are advised to maintain a high degree of caution and strictly adhere to all health guidelines established by local authorities. The Ministry has also encouraged residents to stay vigilant and regularly check for updates regarding the disease's spread.
Furthermore, the Ministry urged individuals in affected areas to register with the "Twajudi" service. This platform allows UAE authorities to keep in touch with citizens abroad and extend support during emergencies or unexpected situations.
Additionally, the ministry reminded Emiratis traveling overseas that they can access assistance through its dedicated emergency hotline if faced with urgent circumstances or requiring immediate help.
This travel warning coincides with ongoing efforts by health authorities across East and Central Africa to contain Ebola outbreaks and prevent further transmission. Both governments and international health organizations are diligently monitoring developments to safeguard public health.
The UAE government restated its commitment to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of its citizens while urging travelers to adhere to official guidelines when planning international travel to areas impacted by the disease.
