The delegation from Special Olympics UAE marked a significant achievement by claiming the silver medal at the first-ever World Sailing Inclusion Championships, which took place in Oman from December 3 to 8, 2025. Representing the MENA region, the UAE had the largest contingent among the 23 competing nations in the intellectual impairment category. This remarkable success underscores the UAE's role as a leader in promoting inclusive sports and providing opportunities for People of Determination in global arenas.

UAE athlete Marwan Salloum delivered an impressive performance in the ILCA category, completing his final race with a strong finish to secure a second-place finish overall. His success is a testament to the UAE’s emerging stature in marine sports and highlights the determination of athletes with intellectual disabilities.

Omar Al Hammadi also shone brightly by finishing fifth in the ILCA category, while Mohammed Al Zubaidi and his Unified partner, Mohammed Al Owais, secured the 24th spot in the RS Venture Mixed category, competing against seasoned Paralympic athletes and topping their classification for intellectual impairments.

The exemplary skills, teamwork, and resilience displayed by the UAE delegation solidified the country’s reputation as a frontrunner in the movement for sports inclusion. The event served as a crucial platform for these athletes to showcase their abilities on an international stage, raising awareness and support for People of Determination.

The year 2025 has been momentous for Special Olympics UAE, showcasing a series of accomplishments that reinforce the nation’s position in the global arena of inclusive sports.
