Typhoon Noul is expected to bring strong winds and heavy rainfall to southern China, including Hong Kong, over the weekend, prompting authorities across the region to remain on high alert.
According to the Hong Kong Observatory, Typhoon Noul was moving steadily across the northeastern part of the South China Sea on Saturday. The storm was carrying maximum sustained winds of 130 kilometres per hour (81 mph) near its centre as it continued to move closer to the eastern coast of Guangdong Province.
The Hong Kong Observatory said the typhoon could make landfall on Sunday morning near the southern Chinese cities of Huizhou and Shanwei. As the storm approaches, heavy squally showers and thunderstorms are expected to affect parts of Hong Kong and nearby areas.
The weather agency warned that periods of intense rainfall and strong winds are likely as Typhoon Noul continues its approach towards the coast.
China's National Meteorological Centre forecast that parts of southeastern Guangdong and the southern coast of Fujian will receive heavy rainfall on Saturday and Sunday as the storm moves across the region.
The forecast indicates that wet and stormy conditions are expected to continue throughout the weekend in these areas.
Weather agencies are closely tracking Typhoon Noul as it advances towards southern China. Officials continue to monitor its movement and are providing regular updates on the storm's expected path and weather conditions across the affected regions.
