Trump Withdraws Support for Greene Amid Controversy Over Epstein Files

Trump Withdraws Support for Greene Amid Controversy Over Epstein Files

Post by : Rameen Ariff

In a surprising turn, President Donald Trump has publicly retracted his endorsement of Congresswoman Marjorie Taylor Greene, signaling a widening political divide just days ahead of an essential congressional vote regarding the release of Jeffrey Epstein’s remaining files.

Trump took to Truth Social late last night to label Greene a “lunatic”, accusing her of veering “far left” and expressing incredulity at her complaints about his administration's achievements. This unexpected decision has left many within the Republican Party taken aback, as Greene has steadfastly supported Trump for years.

In his post, Trump stated, “I am withdrawing my support and endorsement of ‘Congresswoman’ Marjorie Taylor Greene, from the state of Georgia,” adding that her persistent grievances overshadow the successes of his administration.

Greene Responds: Claims Trump Aims to Suppress Republican Voices

Greene quickly retaliated, sharing a screenshot of a message she purportedly sent to Trump regarding the Epstein investigation, which she claims sparked his ire. In a detailed post on X, she contended that Trump is more invested in obstructing the release of Epstein's related documents than addressing the real issues facing American families.

“It’s incredible how he’s fighting to block the Epstein files from being released,” Greene remarked, accusing Trump of using her as a scapegoat to intimidate other Republicans ahead of the pivotal vote next week.

She highlighted the struggles of average Americans, stating that many are suffering financially, and urged Trump to focus his efforts on domestic concerns instead.

Key Vote on Epstein Files Imminent

This internal party strife arises just before a critical vote slated for next week, as House Speaker Mike Johnson has announced that Congress will decide whether to mandate the Department of Justice to disclose all outstanding Epstein documents.

This movement follows the bipartisan Epstein Files Transparency Act, which Greene co-signed along with three other Republican lawmakers. The initiative sidesteps traditional party leadership, ensuring a required vote that could have significant political ramifications.

If passed, the legislation would necessitate the release of:

  • Travel logs associated with Epstein

  • Names referenced in investigatory documents

  • Documents related to Ghislaine Maxwell

  • Additional records connected to the Epstein network

Recent Emails Renew Speculation on Trump's Ties to Epstein

Discontent within the party surged following the release of new emails by Democrats, purportedly linking Trump more closely to Epstein. One email suggested that Trump had “spent hours” at Epstein’s residence in the company of a victim, although the White House refuted the claim, dismissing the communications as inconsequential.

Trump has always maintained that allegations of an “Epstein client list” involving him are merely a political ploy concocted by his adversaries.

Greene Labels Trump’s Approach a ‘Major Misstep’

In an interview on Friday, Greene characterized Trump’s maneuver to distance himself from her as a significant strategic blunder. She expressed confidence that he has nothing to hide but cautioned that resisting transparency only fuels public suspicion.

Greene also accused Trump of politically abandoning her after her dissent over certain aspects of his administration's management of the recent government shutdown and healthcare cutbacks.

Trump Declares Greene ‘Unpopular’ in Georgia

Conversely, Trump maintains that the fallout is unrelated to Epstein, claiming Greene is upset because he discouraged her from pursuing a Senate or gubernatorial run due to her unfavorable poll numbers.

He further stated that Republicans in Georgia are “fed up with her antics” and that he would readily support any strong candidate who opposes her in the upcoming midterm elections.
