On April 13, 2026, President Donald Trump submitted a set of nominations to the Senate, proposing appointments for key roles in the U.S. government while simultaneously withdrawing one previously made ambassadorial nomination, as announced by The White House.
Noteworthy nominations include Erin Browne from New York for Under Secretary of the Treasury, replacing the resigned Jay Curtis Shambaugh. Brian Cavanaugh from Maryland has also been chosen as Under Secretary for Management at the Department of Homeland Security, succeeding Claire M. Grady.
The President has proposed the reappointment of Thomas B. Chapman to the National Transportation Safety Board, extending his term to the end of 2028. Additionally, David M. Prouty has been nominated for another term on the National Labor Relations Board, while James Macy from Wisconsin is set for a new term on the same board through 2030.
In terms of diplomatic roles, Michelle Steel from California has been appointed as the U.S. Ambassador to South Korea, with Eric Wendt taking up the role of Ambassador to Albania. These nominations are seen as vital for enhancing U.S. relationships with significant international partners.
Other important nominations include Brock Dahl as Legal Adviser at the Department of State, Jason Holt as U.S. Marshal for the Northern District of Oklahoma, and Timothy VerHey as U.S. Attorney for Michigan's Western District. Michael Tierney has also been nominated as Assistant Secretary of Veterans Affairs, with a focus on accountability and protection for whistleblowers.
James Woodruff is nominated to chair the Merit Systems Protection Board, overseeing federal employment practices and safeguarding employee rights.
Simultaneously, the nomination of Troy Edgar as U.S. Ambassador to El Salvador has been withdrawn, although no specific reason was disclosed. Originally submitted to the Senate earlier this year, this withdrawal adds to the dynamic adjustments within the administration.
These nominations will undergo the Senate's confirmation process, allowing lawmakers to assess the candidates’ qualifications before providing final approval. This action illustrates the administration's ongoing commitment to filling critical leadership positions in various government sectors and diplomatic missions.
