The Department of Planning and Development – Trakhees, operating under the Ports, Customs and Free Zone Corporation (PCFC), demonstrated its commitment to safety and regulation compliance by executing thorough inspections throughout 2025.
Through its Environment, Health, Safety, and Sustainability (EHSS) Department, Trakhees rolled out an expansive inspection initiative targeting businesses within industrial, commercial, and public health sectors. This program aimed to enhance workplace safety, boost operational efficiency, and ensure adherence to approved regulations.
In the year 2025, Trakhees accomplished 16,021 field inspections alongside 15,627 document verification tasks, culminating in a compliance rate of 94.06%, while 5.94% of businesses were identified as non-compliant.
The inspection initiative encompassed a variety of sectors such as manufacturing, heavy industries, chemical production and storage facilities, as well as logistics centers, hospitality venues, retail, waste management facilities, and public health institutions including healthcare centers and personal care services. Labor accommodations and community facilities also underwent scrutiny.
Inspectors scrutinized vital areas including operational safety, equipment standards, emergency preparedness, worker protection, hygiene, and environmental health regulations. Special focus was directed towards high-risk activities necessitating stringent safety protocols.
H.E. Eng. Abdullah Mohammed Belhoul, CEO of Trakhees, stated that the inspection initiative reflects the department's dedication to upholding high safety standards and fostering a secure working environment. He also noted that these efforts are essential for minimizing risks, safeguarding lives, and promoting sustainable business practices.
Moreover, Belhoul pointed out that Trakhees is consistently enhancing its regulatory systems by adopting international best practices, escalating field inspections, and fortifying monitoring mechanisms. The department collaborates closely with various sectors to foster a robust culture of health and safety compliance.
For establishments that did not meet established standards, violation notices were issued, specifying clear timelines for rectifying the issues. This ensures that risks are managed and corrective actions are effectively enforced to avoid future infractions.
Overall, this inspection initiative underscores Trakhees' proactive stance on ensuring safety, protecting workers and communities, and maintaining a dependable and sustainable business environment.
