Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has successfully finalized extensive road enhancements on Al Warqa’a 1 Street, spanning 7 kilometres in both directions from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road to Ras Al Khor Road. This initiative is aimed at optimizing traffic flow, enhancing safety, and facilitating daily commute for local residents.
The upgrade involved the transformation of four roundabouts into smart signal-controlled intersections, which are projected to elevate traffic efficiency by as much as 30 percent. These enhancements are part of RTA’s ongoing initiative to bolster the efficiency of Dubai’s road infrastructure and uplift the overall standard of living.
Included in the project was a significant infrastructure revamp. RTA implemented 6,600 metres of sophisticated stormwater drainage systems, deployed 324 state-of-the-art street-lighting poles, and created 111 additional parking spots. Moreover, 41,000 square metres of pedestrian walkways were developed to reinforce safety for pedestrians and drivers alike.
Hamad Al Shehhi, Director of Roads at RTA’s Traffic and Roads Agency, remarked that this project builds on previous enhancements concluded in June 2025, which featured direct access points linking Al Warqa’a to Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road. The updates also entailed traffic enhancements on 13th Street in Al Warqa’a 1, stretching around 8 kilometres, benefiting local residents and schools.
Al Shehhi added that RTA is devoted to the development of integrated infrastructure that includes road networks, lighting, and drainage systems in response to Dubai's expanding population and urban growth. These initiatives underscore Dubai’s vision of evolving into a smart, sustainable city focused on the happiness and quality of life of its residents.
Additionally, RTA is in the process of upgrading internal road networks in Al Warqa’a 3 and Al Warqa’a 4. These enhancements encompass road paving, pedestrian pathways, parking provisions, and the introduction of new bicycle lanes to foster connectivity and promote sustainable transport solutions.
Moreover, RTA hosted an interactive session in October for residents of Mirdif and Al Warqa’a to provide updates regarding the Dubai Metro Blue Line project and discuss upcoming traffic alterations during construction phases. This initiative highlights RTA’s commitment to community engagement, transparency, and leveraging public input into effective solutions.
