Thailand and Vietnam have taken another important step toward strengthening bilateral relations as Thai Prime Minister and Interior Minister Anutin Charnvirakul officially welcomed Vietnamese President To Lam during his state visit to Thailand. The visit highlights the growing partnership between the two Southeast Asian nations and their commitment to expanding cooperation across multiple sectors.
The official welcoming ceremony took place on Thursday morning at Government House in Bangkok shortly after Prime Minister Anutin returned from his diplomatic visit to France. President To Lam, who also serves as General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam, arrived with his wife Ngo Phuong Ly as honored guests of the Thai government.
During the ceremony, Prime Minister Anutin warmly greeted the Vietnamese delegation and accompanied President To Lam in inspecting the military honor guard. Both leaders later proceeded to the Thai Khu Fah Building for an official group photograph, signing of the guest book, and exchange of commemorative gifts inside the Ivory Room.
Following the formal reception, the two sides held smaller bilateral discussions focusing on regional and international developments. Thailand and Vietnam reaffirmed their shared commitment to enhancing cooperation in economic development, trade, investment, national security, tourism, and regional partnerships within Southeast Asia.
The discussions later expanded into a larger plenary meeting attended by senior ministers and top officials from both governments. Thailand’s delegation included Deputy Prime Ministers responsible for finance, transport, commerce, and higher education, while the Vietnamese side included senior members of the Communist Party, defence officials, foreign affairs representatives, and ministers overseeing industry, trade, finance, and technology.
Officials from both countries emphasized the importance of stronger collaboration amid changing global economic and geopolitical conditions. The talks also reflected efforts by Thailand and Vietnam to improve connectivity, increase regional trade opportunities, and strengthen ASEAN cooperation on long-term development goals.
The official visit by President To Lam is being viewed as another major diplomatic milestone between Bangkok and Hanoi. Analysts believe the high-level discussions could lead to expanded economic agreements and closer strategic coordination between the two countries in the near future.
