Space42 is making significant strides in fortifying the UAE’s role within the global space technology arena by developing advanced satellite manufacturing, artificial intelligence, and Earth observation capabilities.
In a recent conversation with the Emirates News Agency (WAM) at the ‘Make it in the Emirates 2026’ event, Hasan Al Hosani shared insights about the company’s mission to transform the UAE's aspirations for space technology into robust industrial, operational, and sovereign competencies.
Al Hosani emphasized that Space42 is creating an all-encompassing space ecosystem capable of designing, assembling, integrating, testing, and operating state-of-the-art technologies right here in the UAE. Artificial intelligence is being leveraged to turn satellite-derived data into actionable insights beneficial for governments, businesses, and key sectors.
He pointed out the significance of the Foresight constellation project as it embodies Space42’s overarching strategy to localize major components of the space technology value chain within the UAE, including the assembly and testing of cutting-edge Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) satellites.
Highlighting the establishment of Space42 Space Systems in Abu Dhabi, he described it as the first Earth observation satellite Assembly, Integration and Testing (AIT) facility in the region.
According to Al Hosani, the successful launch of Foresight-3, Foresight-4, and Foresight-5 signifies a pivotal achievement for the UAE’s space industry, marking the first SAR satellites to be assembled and tested on Emirati soil, illustrating the country's evolution from mere knowledge transfer to actual industrial and technological capabilities.
These advances are instrumental in cultivating advanced domestic expertise in Earth observation technologies while bolstering the nation’s sovereign capabilities in the space arena.
Discussing localization efforts, Al Hosani stated that Space42 views localization as a foundational journey aimed at fostering sustainable industrial know-how and production proficiency throughout the entire value chain.
The company is also dedicated to nurturing local talent in satellite design, development, and operational management, while enhancing collaborations with industrial partners, governmental entities, and private enterprises.
Al Hosani elaborated on the significant role AI plays within Space42’s framework, particularly through the GIQ geospatial intelligence platform, which collects and analyzes data from satellites, high-altitude platforms, and ground sensors.
These AI-enhanced technologies are being deployed for various applications, including disaster management, infrastructure oversight, urban planning, environmental monitoring, and national security.
He concluded by stating that these sophisticated capabilities enable quicker and more precise decision-making, enhance operational efficiency, and reinforce the UAE’s status as a regional nexus for Earth observation technology development and export.
