Shell plc has finalized a definitive agreement to purchase ARC Resources Ltd., a transaction valued at $16.4 billion. This strategic move underscores Shell's commitment to expanding its energy portfolio while reinforcing its presence in North America.
ARC Resources operates within the Montney shale basin, a critical energy hub in Canada that spans British Columbia and Alberta. With this acquisition, Shell is poised to achieve immediate production capacity of approximately 370 thousand barrels of oil equivalent per day (kboe/d), encompassing both natural gas and liquids.
As per the company's projections, the agreement is anticipated to enable a production growth rate of around 4% annually until 2030, in line with 2025 forecasts. This will facilitate Shell in ramping up its output while preserving a balanced energy portfolio.
Shell has indicated that the acquisition will significantly boost its access to long-lasting, low-cost resources characterized by low carbon emissions. The Montney basin is recognized for its effective production methods and lower emissions, rendering it a desirable asset as the energy sector pivots towards sustainable practices.
According to the company, the deal is expected to yield substantial long-term value, ensuring steady production and bolstering its global energy strategy well into the future.
