A team from the Sharjah Academy for Astronomy, Space Sciences and Technology at the University of Sharjah has commenced the final testing phase of Sharjah Sat-2 during an official trip to the Netherlands. This critical step marks a significant advancement in readying the CubeSat mission for its anticipated launch in early 2026.
The delegation toured ISISPACE, a prominent company specializing in the development and integration of CubeSats and space systems. The focus of the visit was to verify the concluding phases of assembly, integration, and testing, regarded as vital before any satellite launch. Engineers meticulously tested all satellite systems, ensuring readiness and safety for space operations.
Throughout the testing process, the team assessed power systems, safety protocols, and communication apparatus to verify that the satellite can effectively receive commands and transmit data back to Earth. They also examined the flight software to ensure it’s adequately prepared for launch procedures. These tests play a crucial role in validating the satellite’s operational capability once in orbit.
The delegation inspected sophisticated testing facilities, including a thermal vacuum chamber that replicates the severe conditions encountered in space, such as extreme temperatures and vacuum environments. Vibration assessments were also carried out to simulate the intense forces that the satellite will undergo during its launch, ensuring structural integrity.
Additionally, technical discussions and a workshop focused on international manufacturing and inspection standards were held. The team reviewed quality control protocols, documentation processes, and component evaluations to guarantee that the satellite complies with all necessary space mission standards.
Sharjah Sat-2 is outfitted with a multispectral imaging camera capable of capturing high-resolution images of the Earth with a precision of five meters. The satellite's data will aid in Earth observation, urban planning, environmental oversight, natural resource management, and disaster response initiatives in Sharjah. This mission also aims to bolster sectors such as agriculture and coastal protection while enhancing local expertise in space technologies.
