Post by : Badri Ariffin

Mleiha, Sharjah:

His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, graced the fourth harvest ceremony at the “Sabaa Sanabel” wheat farm located in Mleiha. In addition, he unveiled the premium chocolate brand “QAND” and introduced the innovative “Mazraaty” digital platform aimed at assisting farmers and livestock keepers.

Commitment to Organic Nutrition

During his address, Sheikh Sultan underscored the critical role of organic food, expressing concern over the rise of modern ailments linked to unhealthy, chemical-laden diets. He emphasized a collective effort towards preserving natural food systems for enhanced wellness.

Robust Agricultural Support

The Ruler commended the increasing global recognition of Sharjah’s agricultural products, noting that 580 farmers have already benefited from the Department of Agriculture and Livestock's wheat seed program.

He pledged continued governmental backing, including land preparation, soil enhancement, and the reclamation of non-arable land.

Innovative Nano Clay Farming Technology

Sheikh Sultan highlighted the effectiveness of “nano clay” technology which enhances soil quality, retains moisture, and boosts crop yields. This technology will soon be accessible to farmers aimed at improving agricultural productivity in arid zones.

Efforts to Conquer Water and Financial Challenges

To alleviate farming costs, various initiatives have been initiated, including drip irrigation systems in Kalba and Al Madina Lake, alongside government subsidies for electricity usage. The importance of strategic marketing to uplift healthy, trustworthy agricultural products was also stressed.

A Vision for Increased Wheat Production

Sheikh Sultan invited more farmers from the UAE to partake in the wheat initiative and shared plans to set up a new wheat farm aimed at doubling output and reaching international markets.

Comprehensive Food Security Framework

He stated that Sharjah is forging a holistic agricultural ecosystem encompassing wheat farming, dairy production in Mleiha, poultry projects, and various fruits and vegetables to ensure the provision of quality, natural food for the community.

Launch of the “Mazraaty” Digital Platform

The “Mazraaty” platform, newly launched, will streamline access for farmers to governmental services employing advanced technologies such as thermal imaging and data analytics for monitoring crop health effectively.

Introduction of QAND Chocolate Brand

The luxury “QAND” chocolate brand, crafted from organic “Iktifa” ingredients, was also introduced by Sheikh Sultan, aiming to reflect Emirati heritage on a global scale and promote natural products.

Commitment to Scientific Progress and Innovation

The event showcased progressive research in agricultural biotechnology, highlighting wheat enhancement efforts from the UAE’s premier specialized lab, alongside findings on nano clay and sustainable farming techniques from university researchers.

Engagement of Youth and Community

Students and young innovators presented projects, including a smart robot devised to combat desertification and bolster food security. Educational initiatives like “Baba Sultan Healthy Food” have been adopted by 57 institutions aiming to foster healthy dietary habits among children.

Technological Advances in Harvesting

The wheat harvest was executed using modern machinery, proficient in cutting, grain separation, and straw compression, showcasing Sharjah’s commitment to smart agricultural practices.

Acknowledgment and Farewell

Sheikh Sultan honored strategic partners who played a role in the agricultural season's success, concluding the event with cultural performances and a heartfelt tribute from over 2,000 students celebrating his dedication to food security and sustainable agricultural practices.
