Sharjah is gearing up to present the eagerly anticipated “Sharjah World Championship Week,” under the esteemed patronage of H.H. Sheikh Sultan bin Mohammed bin Sultan Al Qasimi. The highlight of the week will be the final round of the UIM F1H2O World Championship, known as the Grand Prix of Sharjah, taking place from December 19 to 21, thus concluding the 2025 racing season.
On December 19, a press conference will take place at the Hotel Holiday International in Sharjah, where details of the championship will be unveiled. The event will see participation from Khalid Jasim Al Midfa, Chairman of SCTDA, promoter Nicolo Di San Germano, and several top racers from UAE teams. Notable competitors, including Shaun Torrente, Rusty Wyatt, Stefan Arand, and Mansoor Al Mansoori will be present alongside various government officials and partners.
The thrilling final race will unfold at Khalid Lagoon, one of Sharjah’s premier waterfront venues. Racers from around the globe will vie for the top three spots in what is considered a premier powerboat racing fixture internationally. This event is a key part of the Sharjah World Championship Week, attracting elite competitors and enthusiastic fans alike.
Representing the UAE in this season’s championship are three teams: the Sharjah Team, currently in second place, which includes Canadian Rusty Wyatt, Estonian Stefan Arand, and Finnish Filip Roms. The fifth-placed Abu Dhabi Team comprises Rashid Al Qamzi, Mansoor Al Mansoori, and Erik Stark. Leading the pack is the Victory Team, featuring Ahmed Al Fahim, Alec Weckstrom, and Shaun Torrente, who tops the individual standings.
The schedule for the Sharjah Grand Prix will kick off on December 18 with an environmental initiative aimed at cutting carbon emissions. December 19 will see team registrations, a press conference, technical checks, and the initial free practice session. The next day will include driver briefings, qualifying rounds, and two sprint races, leading up to a prize-giving ceremony.
On the final day, December 21, competitors will engage in a warm-up session followed by a parade lap. The main attraction, the “Grand Prix of Sharjah,” is slated for the afternoon, concluding with the official prize-giving ceremony. This comprehensive schedule promises to deliver an exhilarating experience for motorsport enthusiasts and attendees.
The Khalid Lagoon circuit is celebrated for its challenging 2,057-meter layout featuring five turns, including four red and one yellow buoy. This track supports up to 22 boats, showcasing a lengthy 585-meter straight, alongside shorter 260-meter sections that demand high accuracy. Last year’s race saw fierce competition, highlighted by Jonas Andersson’s victory. The UIM F1H2O championship stands as a prominent fixture within marine sports, renowned for its speed, skill, and global reach, making it a significant part of the sports tourism and racing calendar.
