An Australian man with a history of disrupting celebrity events was removed from a Lady Gaga concert in Brisbane, even before the show began.
Johnson Wen, 26, revealed on Instagram that he was “kicked out” of Suncorp Stadium on Tuesday night. Wen, who previously grabbed pop star Ariana Grande at the Asian premiere of Wicked: For Good in Singapore, has a record of interrupting concerts and public events.
Last month, a Singapore court sentenced Wen to nine days in jail for his actions toward Grande, and he was subsequently banned from entering the country. In court, Wen told the judge he would “not do it again,” but his history of public disturbances raised concerns at the Brisbane venue.
Security footage from the Lady Gaga concert shows Wen being escorted out by guards, while the crowd’s reaction ranged from cheers to boos. Suncorp Stadium confirmed in a statement that Wen was considered a potential risk due to his previous behavior and was therefore denied entry to ensure the artist’s safety.
Wen’s history includes jumping on stage and disrupting performances by international stars such as Katy Perry and The Weeknd. Singaporean authorities had previously criticized him for seeking attention at the expense of public safety.
The incident with Grande drew strong public condemnation in Singapore, with fans accusing Wen of “re-traumatizing” the singer, who has openly spoken about her post-traumatic stress following the 2017 Manchester concert bombing that killed 22 people and injured hundreds.
