Senegal Football Federation Raises Concerns Over AFCON Final Setup

Senegal Football Federation Raises Concerns Over AFCON Final Setup

Post by : Meena Ariff

The Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) has expressed serious concerns about the treatment of its national team in Morocco before Sunday’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final against the hosts.

In an early Saturday statement, the FSF criticized inadequate security upon the team’s arrival in Rabat, poor accommodation conditions, problems with training facilities, and limited ticket availability for Senegalese fans.

The federation urged the Confederation of African Football (CAF) and local organizers to act quickly to ensure fairness, equal treatment, and proper security for this important continental event.

After traveling by train from Tangier to Rabat on Friday, Senegal’s players encountered what the federation described as a “clear lack of adequate security,” leading to overcrowding and unnecessary risks.

The FSF said it had to formally complain to secure suitable hotel accommodations but did not disclose details about the initial lodging offered.

The federation also rejected the use of the Mohammed VI Complex for team training—where Morocco’s squad has been based throughout the tournament—questioning the fairness of the arrangement. The location for Senegal’s training remains unconfirmed.

Ticket sales have also caused concern, with Senegal only able to buy 2,850 tickets, a number the federation calls “insufficient” given the high demand and restrictions that disadvantage Senegalese supporters.

The final will take place at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium, which holds 69,500 fans. Morocco, eager to end a 50-year title drought, has enjoyed strong fan support, and Senegal, the 2021 champions, will be vying for their second Africa Cup title.

The FSF made its complaints public to promote transparency and defend the interests of its national team ahead of this major football event.
