Mumbai: In a spectacular display at Wankhede Stadium, Chennai Super Kings claimed a decisive 103-run victory against Mumbai Indians, driven by an exceptional innings from Sanju Samson, who scored an unbeaten century.
Samson's magnificent 101 runs off 54 balls propelled Chennai to a formidable total, marking one of their most substantial wins over Mumbai Indians. This defeat set a record for Mumbai's largest loss at home.
After a challenging start to the season, where he faced difficulties in his initial three innings, Samson has showcased his return to form. With this century, his second of the season, he now boasts 293 runs over seven innings and ranks third among the tournament’s top run-scorers, following Abhishek Sharma and Heinrich Klaasen from Sunrisers Hyderabad.
In a post-match interview, Samson emphasized that his adaptability and flexibility on the field were key to his success, rather than adhering to a fixed strategy. He noted that the Wankhede pitch posed challenges, as the ball did not come off the surface smoothly, necessitating tactical adjustments.
He further explained that understanding the match situation and team needs supersedes predetermined plans. Maintaining an open mindset enhances performance across varying conditions, according to him.
Samson expressed his joy at scoring a century at Wankhede, particularly in front of the home fans of the Mumbai franchise.
This impressive victory lifts Chennai Super Kings to the fifth position on the IPL points table, solidifying their standing in the competition.
