Dubai is set to expand its renowned Metro network, with strong progress on the Blue Line project. Recently, His Excellency Mattar Al Tayer, Director General and Chairman of the RTA, convened the Dubai Metro Blue Line Forum at the Precast Concrete Production and Storage Factory located in International City. This meeting involved key stakeholders, such as leaders from MAPA, Limak, CRRC Hong Kong, and RTA, to assess construction developments and confirm project milestones.
Workforce and Current Status
At the moment, over 3,000 personnel, managed by 500 engineers and specialists, are actively working across 12 locations. More than 4.6 million work hours have been completed, bringing the overall project completion to 12%. Officials are targeting a 30% completion rate by the end of 2026, aiming for the full line to launch on September 9, 2029.
Advanced Concrete Production Facilities
The Dubai Metro Blue Line distinguishes itself with dedicated concrete facilities, featuring two ready-mix batching plants and two precast concrete storage areas. The Al Ruwayyah 3 facility produces 200 cubic metres of ready-mix concrete daily, while the precast yard contributes 10–12 segments per day. Additionally, the plant in International City produces 120 cubic metres of ready-mix concrete and the tunnel rings factory manufactures 12 rings each day. This cohesive method ensures better quality control, faster timelines, and greater efficiency in construction.
Urban Significance and Future Impact
Measuring 30 km and featuring 14 stations, the Blue Line will connect the Red and Green Lines of the Dubai Metro, serving areas expected to accommodate almost one million residents by 2040. It will provide swift 20-minute access to Dubai International Airport and align with the Dubai 2040 Urban Master Plan, including the 20-minute city initiative. The line is anticipated to alleviate traffic congestion on its routes by 20%, increase property values around stations by as much as 25%, and foster Transit-Oriented Development while supporting the Dubai Economic Agenda (D33).
Thanks to innovative construction techniques and a clear development strategy, the Dubai Metro Blue Line is poised to serve as a critical transport infrastructure, strengthening connectivity and transforming urban life for both residents and visitors.
