Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, is set to embark on an official journey to the United Arab Emirates this Friday, aiming to deepen the historic alliance between the two nations. Throughout his visit, he will engage in key discussions with UAE leaders prior to his longer six-day expedition across Europe.
As per the Indian Ministry of External Affairs, following his time in the UAE, Mr. Modi will continue to the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, and Italy.
The bond between India and the UAE is anchored in robust diplomatic, cultural, and economic ties, with nearly four million Indians residing in the UAE, making them the largest expatriate community there. Over the years, both countries have significantly enhanced collaboration in sectors like trade, investment, energy, technology, and infrastructure.
In 2022, India and the UAE formalized the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), marking the UAE's inaugural trade agreement of this nature. This partnership has pushed the bilateral trade volume past $85 billion. India is presently the UAE's largest trading partner, while the UAE ranks as India’s third-largest partner.
During his last visit to the UAE in 2024, Mr. Modi connected with around 40,000 members of the Indian populace at the Zayed Sports City Stadium, in addition to participating in the World Governments Summit in Dubai and inaugurating the inaugural Hindu temple in Abu Dhabi.
Earlier this year, Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan made his way to New Delhi for discussions with Mr. Modi, where they explored avenues for enhancing collaboration in fields such as artificial intelligence, technology, and economic security.
Both leaders oversaw the signing of agreements aimed at fostering bilateral cooperation and supporting developmental projects moving forward.
Post-meeting, Sheikh Mohamed emphasized the commitment of both nations to jointly pursue sustainable growth, economic prosperity, and fortified strategic connections.
