On Tuesday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi celebrated 12 years in leadership, describing this time as a journey marked by trust, development, and a focus on public welfare. As part of this anniversary, he highlighted key accomplishments in welfare schemes, infrastructure, healthcare, women's empowerment, agriculture, and national security.
Modi first took office in May 2014 and started his third consecutive term on June 9, 2024, following the National Democratic Alliance's (NDA) victory in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. He is now recognized as India’s longest-serving Prime Minister with these 12 uninterrupted years.
Via a message on social media platform X, Modi stated that the government’s efforts over the past 12 years have been anchored in the mantra of “Nation First,” aimed at empowering youth, women, and farmers while bolstering India's standing internationally.
“The last 12 years of our governance have been devoted to trust, growth, and public welfare. With the blessings of 140 crore Indians and the spirit of Nation First, our initiatives have aimed at empowering youth, women, and farmers,” PM Modi stated.
Welfare Initiatives and Women's Empowerment
Modi outlined several initiatives designed to uplift economically disadvantaged communities. Official data reveals that more than 81 crore individuals benefit from free food grains each month through the government’s food security program.
Additionally, over four crore homes have been built under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana, more than 10.5 crore LPG connections have been provided through the Ujjwala Yojana, and more than 12 crore toilets have been constructed nationwide.
On women's empowerment, he noted that over 32 crore women have been integrated into the banking system via Jan Dhan accounts. Furthermore, he emphasized the provision of permanent commission roles for women in the armed forces and the achievements of the Lakhpati Didi initiative, which has connected over 10 crore rural women with more than 91 lakh self-help groups.
Infrastructure Advancements
The Prime Minister discussed substantial infrastructure growth over the past decade. India now features a functioning metro network that spans over 1,100 kilometers across 26 cities. Additionally, the government has rolled out 164 new Vande Bharat trains to enhance rail connectivity.
Major infrastructure achievements during this period include the completion of the Atal Setu, Sudarshan Setu, and the Chenab Rail Bridge. According to official reports, the number of airports in the country has surged from 74 in 2014 to 164.
Youth and Employment Initiatives
Addressing the youth, PM Modi noted that over two crore young individuals have received skill development training. Moreover, the government has extended Mudra loans amounting to Rs 40 lakh crore to foster entrepreneurship and support small businesses.
India's startup ecosystem has seen a remarkable expansion, with over 2.2 lakh recognized startups, placing the country among the world's leading startup centers.
Healthcare Expansion
Modi also emphasized the strides made in healthcare. Seniors aged 70 and above can access free treatment coverage of up to Rs 5 lakh under government healthcare programs.
The Ayushman Bharat initiative provides health coverage for approximately 80 crore citizens. Additionally, over 19,000 Jan Aushadhi centers across the nation are delivering affordable medications.
Support for Farmers
The Prime Minister underscored the government’s dedication to farmers. Under the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, Rs 4.3 lakh crore has been directly transferred to farmers.
Furthermore, the government has disbursed crop insurance claims worth Rs 2 lakh crore, procured agricultural products valued at Rs 26 lakh crore at Minimum Support Price (MSP), and issued Kisan Credit Cards to nearly eight crore farmers.
National Security and Cultural Heritage
Discussing national security, Modi noted record defense exports of Rs 38,400 crore and the government's active measures against terrorism and Naxalism. He also mentioned symbolic steps such as renaming Rajpath to Kartavyapath and unveiling a new naval ensign inspired by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj.
The administration also shed light on developments related to India’s cultural heritage, including the construction of the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya and various redevelopment projects at Kashi Vishwanath, Mahakal Mahalok, and Kedarnath Dham.
PM Modi reiterated his government’s commitment to realizing the vision of a “Viksit Bharat” through dedicated public service, effective governance, economic progress, and inclusive development.
