Penang cemetery act case, two arrested

Penang cemetery act case, two arrested

Post by : Shakul

Police in George Town have arrested two individuals following the circulation of a viral video allegedly showing an indecent act at a cemetery in Batu Gantung, Air Itam. Authorities confirmed that the arrests were made after a formal complaint was lodged regarding the disturbing footage shared widely on social media.

According to Timur Laut district police chief Abdul Rozak Muhammad, the incident is believed to have occurred on March 22 at a Chinese cemetery. The first suspect, a 37-year-old woman, was detained at a residential flat near Jalan Padang Tembak, while the second suspect, a 58-year-old man, was arrested later the same night near Bayan Lepas.

Preliminary investigations revealed that both suspects are locals and have admitted involvement in the incident. The individuals have been remanded for three days to assist in the investigation. Authorities are probing the case under Section 294(a) and Section 509 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The viral video, reportedly around 38 seconds long, shows the couple at the cemetery and includes a confrontation by a bystander who warned them about reporting the matter to police. Officials have urged the public not to circulate sensitive content and to allow authorities to handle the investigation through proper legal channels.

The case has drawn public attention in Malaysia, highlighting concerns over inappropriate behaviour in public places and the rapid spread of viral content on social media platforms.
