Omar Al Marzooqi Shines at Lisbon Grand Prix

Post by : Badri Ariffin

Omar Abdul Aziz Al Marzooqi from the UAE showcased an outstanding performance at the CSIO3* Lisbon Grand Prix, held at the historic Sociedade Hípica Portuguesa in Lisbon.

Riding his trusted steed Chacco Bay, Al Marzooqi achieved one of only two double-clear rounds on Bernardo Costa Cabral’s intricate 1.55m course, culminating in a jump-off victory with an impressive time of 38.43 seconds.

French rider Edouard Chauvet secured second place with Zia Mia de la Bonn Z, while Portuguese competitor Duarte Seabra rounded out the top three.

This victory marks the duo's second Grand Prix win, further solidifying their presence as a promising team within the UAE's international show jumping scene. Al Marzooqi is also ranked among the top 10 in the FEI U25 standings.

The event was part of the rejuvenated CSIO Lisbon, bolstered by support from Al Shira’aa Stables, pivotal in reviving premier equestrian competitions in Portugal.

Expressing his joy post-victory, Al Marzooqi emphasized the significance of triumphing in a historic event that has been revived, thanking Al Shira’aa for their unwavering support.

Sami Kettle, Director of Global Operations at Al Shira’aa, commended Al Marzooqi's excellence, accentuating the value of teamwork and the long-term growth of UAE equestrian talent.

This win also aligns with Sheikha Fatima bint Hazza bin Zayed Al Nahyan's broader vision, encouraging the development of equestrian sports and the return of historic international competitions.

Al Shira’aa has pledged to restore the Lisbon Nations Cup starting in 2026, under a five-year agreement, further cementing its contribution to European equestrian events.
