The Hafeet Rail initiative, a collaboration between Etihad Rail, Oman Rail, and Mubadala Investment Company, has reached 40% completion in building the railway link between Oman and the UAE. This venture stands as a pivotal element in the region's infrastructure and transportation framework.
Spanning 238 kilometres, the railway aims to establish a rapid and effective transport network that will facilitate trade movement, fortify supply lines, and stimulate economic progress between these two nations.
Construction is thriving at key sites such as Al Ain Region, Al Buraimi, Sohar, and Wadi Al Jizzi. The railway's route traverses urban areas, industrial sectors, mountainous terrains, and valleys, necessitating sophisticated engineering solutions, including tunnels, bridges, and flood mitigation systems.
Over 27 million cubic metres of earthworks have already been completed, with concrete construction surpassing 100,000 cubic metres. Presently, about 80 structures are underway, which includes the installation of 900 concrete piles and 130 box culverts.
Abdulrahman Al Hatmi, CEO of Asyad Group, remarked that the project's current momentum is a testament to the dedication of all involved partners. He emphasized that this development is integral to Oman’s railway vision and showcases the capabilities of local talent.
Ahmed AlMusawa AlHashemi, CEO of Hafeet Rail, pointed out that achieving 40% completion signifies significant advancement. He assured that the focus remains on accelerating progress, ensuring safety protocols, and achieving superior quality outcomes. The project has also reported 10 million safe work hours with no significant injuries.
To comply with international standards, advanced railway technologies, including signaling and communication systems, are being implemented to enhance operational efficiency and capacity for both countries.
This railway will also facilitate future passenger services, easing travel for both tourists and business professionals, aligning seamlessly with national initiatives such as Oman Vision 2040 and the UAE’s strategic development frameworks.
In summary, the Oman-UAE railway project is set to bolster economic development, minimize reliance on road transport, reduce emissions, and enhance regional connectivity—reflecting a common vision for a more integrated and sustainable future between Oman and the UAE.
