North Carolina Deputy Shoots 13-Year-Old After He Kills Grandmother

North Carolina Deputy Shoots 13-Year-Old After He Kills Grandmother

Post by : Rameen Ariff

Raeford, North Carolina (Nov 1, 2025): A 13-year-old boy was shot and killed by a Lee County sheriff’s deputy after reportedly murdering his grandmother and later charging toward the officer with a piece of wood during a confrontation, officials confirmed on Friday.

According to the Hoke County Sheriff’s Office, the tragic series of events began when deputies discovered 68-year-old Connie Linen dead inside her home in Raeford, around 90 miles southwest of Raleigh. Authorities described her death as a homicide, though details of how she was killed have not yet been released.

Investigators quickly identified Linen’s grandson as the prime suspect and secured a warrant charging him with first-degree murder. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office was alerted to the case and soon located the boy hiding behind an abandoned mobile home in the Cameron area.

When deputies approached, the teenager fled on foot. During the chase, authorities said the boy grabbed a two-by-four wooden plank and ran toward one of the officers. In response, the deputy opened fire, fatally shooting the teen.

The State Bureau of Investigation will now review the incident — a standard procedure in officer-involved shootings — to determine whether the deputy’s actions were justified.

Lee County Sheriff Brian Estes and state officials have not yet provided further details, but both departments are cooperating with the ongoing inquiry.

“This has been a tragic and emotional situation for everyone involved,” said Hoke County Sheriff Roderick Virgil in a public statement. “We ask our community to come together with compassion and understanding as we all process this difficult event.”

The identities of both the deputy and the teenager have not been released due to the ongoing investigation.

The case has sparked renewed debate about the use of force by police, particularly in situations involving minors.
