Abu Dhabi marks a significant milestone in women's mental health support with the inauguration of the Women’s Mental Health Clinic at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City (SSMC). This innovative facility, a product of collaboration between SAKINA under SEHA and SSMC, is the emirate’s inaugural dedicated clinic, tailored to provide culturally sensitive assistance to women of all ages.
Situated on Level 4 of Tower A at SSMC, the clinic welcomes patients from Monday to Friday, 8am to 4pm, prioritizing straightforward access to psychological care delivered by an exclusively female team of psychiatrists and psychologists—an approach designed to foster trust, comfort, and privacy for those seeking help.
Adopting a patient-centered framework, the clinic addresses a broad spectrum of mental health issues, including anxiety, depression, and stress. Those who visit can benefit from comprehensive psychological evaluations, Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), tailored treatment strategies, and organized follow-up care. In addition to individual sessions, the facility provides group therapy, peer-support initiatives, and activities aimed at diminishing social isolation while enhancing emotional strength.
The clinic places particular emphasis on perinatal and postnatal mental health. Assessments are now built into standard antenatal care, facilitating the early recognition of women at risk during pregnancy. Postnatal services ensure ongoing support post-childbirth, aiding new mothers as they tackle emotional hurdles that often remain unaddressed.
This initiative bolsters the UAE’s commitment to advancing community wellbeing, ensuring women have access to respectful and comprehensive mental health resources. By merging clinical services with community-based programs, the clinic aspires to create lasting support networks so that women do not face their mental health challenges in isolation.
Through this launch, Abu Dhabi reaffirms its dedication to enhancing mental health accessibility, offering women throughout the capital a dedicated environment where their emotional, psychological, and social requirements are recognized and nurtured with the utmost care.
