Ottawa is poised to see a significant change in its skyline with the approval of a stunning 50-storey mixed-use high-rise overlooking Dow’s Lake. This architectural marvel will be located at 829 Carling Avenue, conveniently situated near the Preston Street area and just steps away from the Dow’s Lake O-Train Station as well as the upcoming Ottawa Hospital Civic Campus.
The new development will comprise 503 residential units made up of studios, one-, two-, and three-bedroom layouts, alongside 196 parking spaces and 482 bicycle spots. Additionally, the ground level will provide 300 square metres of commercial space along Preston Street, enhancing the vibrancy of the streetscape, while the primary entrance for residents and offices will face Carling Avenue.
Initially proposed as a 60-storey building in 2021, the design was revised to 50 storeys to better align with the surrounding urban environment. The tower will be positioned opposite Ottawa’s tallest building, the 45-storey Claridge Icon, which was completed in 2022.
City planners assert that this new high-rise will turn an underutilized area into a bustling, density-focused, transit-friendly hub, promoting pedestrian activity and fostering vibrant mixed-use neighborhoods across the city.
This project marks a pivotal moment for Ottawa, blending contemporary design with urban convenience and access to essential transit and healthcare services.
