In a shocking turn of events within the beauty pageant realm, Nawat Itsaragrisil, president of Miss Grand International (MGI), has initiated a defamation lawsuit against Fatima Bosch, the current Miss Universe 2025. This conflict, ignited during a pre-event gathering in Thailand, has now crystalized into a formal legal battle.
The discord emerged on November 4 during a livestream by Miss Universe Thailand, where Nawat challenged Fatima regarding her supposed decision to skip a planned social-media photoshoot. He accused her of acting upon directives from Mexico's national pageant director, a claim that Fatima swiftly refuted, setting off a public spat that went viral online.
As video clips of the livestream circulated, multiple news outlets reported that Nawat had disparaged Fatima by referring to her as a “dumbhead.” MGI later countered these claims, clarifying that he actually said “damage,” insisting that his intent was misrepresented. They provided context, emphasizing that Nawat's complete statement included: “If you follow the order from your national director, you’re damage; if you don’t, you can do it. I’m very happy, and the good report will go to organise…”
On December 3, MGI released a statement via Miss Universe Thailand, asserting that Fatima continued to make misleading assertions in interviews even after being presented with what they claimed was the accurate audio. The organization held that her repeated statements have tarnished Nawat’s reputation amid her journey to clinch the Miss Universe title.
In light of this increasing rift, Nawat took the significant step of filing a criminal complaint against Fatima in Thailand on November 12, marking an unusual legal confrontation between two high-profile figures in the beauty pageant industry. The case is proceeding through the Thai legal system as both parties staunchly maintain their versions of the contentious events.
