Veteran Indian cricketer MS Dhoni has been ruled out of the opening fortnight of the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a calf strain, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) confirmed in an official statement on March 28, 2026.
Dhoni, 44, who remains one of the most iconic figures in franchise cricket history and has led CSK to five IPL titles, is currently undergoing rehabilitation and his participation in the early matches of the season is unlikely.
CSK’s campaign is set to begin against the Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati, with further fixtures against Punjab Kings, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, and Delhi Capitals scheduled in the opening weeks.
With the legendary wicketkeeper‑batter unavailable, Sanju Samson is expected to don the gloves for CSK in Dhoni’s absence. CSK has not yet specified a precise return date for Dhoni, leaving fans eager for updates on his fitness progress.
The news marks a significant moment for CSK and its supporters, who have long celebrated Dhoni’s enduring presence in the IPL since its inception.
