Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a high-level meeting with senior ministers to review the country’s energy preparedness amid the ongoing tensions in West Asia. The discussion focused on ensuring uninterrupted supply of crude oil, natural gas, petroleum products, and stability in power and fertiliser sectors.
Key Ministers Attend High-Level Meeting
The meeting, held in New Delhi, included key cabinet members such as Rajnath Singh, Amit Shah, Nirmala Sitharaman, S Jaishankar and Hardeep Singh Puri, along with other senior officials and advisors.
Government sources said the primary focus of the meeting was to maintain stable logistics, secure supply chains, and ensure efficient distribution of essential resources across the country. The review comes at a time when global oil markets are facing volatility due to geopolitical tensions in the region.
Global Crisis Impacts Energy Supply
The crisis in West Asia, involving Iran, Israel and the United States, has significantly impacted global energy supplies. One of the key concerns is the Strait of Hormuz, through which nearly 20% of the world’s oil supply passes. Disruptions in this strategic route have raised concerns over fuel availability and price stability worldwide.
Government Focus on Supply Stability
The government is taking proactive measures to safeguard consumer and industrial interests, with a strong emphasis on maintaining adequate reserves and minimising the impact of global supply shocks. Officials noted that continuous monitoring of the situation is underway to respond quickly to any further escalation.
Earlier, the Prime Minister had highlighted that the ongoing conflict has triggered a global energy crisis, stressing the need for resilience, strategic planning, and international cooperation. India has also been actively engaging with multiple countries in the region through diplomatic channels to ensure energy security.
The meeting reflects India’s preparedness to handle external disruptions while maintaining stability in essential sectors critical to the economy.
